The Laidback Project consists of DJ DCI on decks and Rapunzel M.A.P. on the microphone. Leaving behind her acoustic guitar and embracing chunky chilled beats, gives Rapunzel M.A.P. the chance to vent over DJ DCI's choice chillout tunes. With RapMAP's cool as cucumber melodies, her 'tell it like it is' lyrics and of course THAT voice, you'll be trying to get a copy of these rare 'mash-ups' as quick as you can say 'carling - white label'.
If you were lucky you would have seen these two perform in The Ambient Tent at Guilford Festival in 2003 to a packed out tent that were defrosted by DCI, then revved up by her crystal clear vocals and lyrics. They can't be released as yet clearance is being sought but you can hear them here!
"The age old method when you don't have a producer it to just 'free style' over someone elses beatz, its a technique mainly for rappers but what I do is principly the same thing. My voice is more rythmic and melodical & the song is not is in a verse chorus song structure like my acoustic stuff. Its more a story of a thought process. It enables me to sing about my experiences in a different way, more of a rant in some instances...'How Old R U Baby' is about my music business journey. I wrote it back in 2002 and performed it for the first time at the Broadway Cafe Bar when Radio 1 toured Nottingham in November 02."
